Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication used to treat various infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, including bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amebiasis, and certain intra-abdominal and dental infections.
