Chenodeoxycholic acid is a primary bile acid, naturally occurring in the human body, used to treat gallstones (chenodiol) and certain rare disorders such as cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis. It is not widely used today as ursodeoxycholic acid is preferred for most gallstone-related applications.
