Metirosine (alpha-methyltyrosine) is a competitive inhibitor of tyrosine hydroxylase, the rate-limiting enzyme in catecholamine biosynthesis. It is used primarily to manage symptoms of pheochromocytoma, a catecholamine-secreting tumor, especially preoperatively or in patients where surgery is contraindicated.
