Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist primarily used as a decongestant, vasopressor, and mydriatic agent. It is approved for use in the management of nasal congestion, hypotension (especially during anesthesia), and to dilate pupils for ophthalmic procedures. Phenylephrine is commonly available in oral, intravenous, and ophthalmic formulations and remains in use today.
